Will my credit count for CEs (Continued Education credits)?

Yes.

Is there a curfew for students traveling with GATES Institute?

All participants of GATES Institute tours are adults and not subject to any curfew  (unless Host country enforces one), students are expected to follow our code of conduct while traveling.  Students traveling with GATES are also students of the Host University and must act accordingly.  Behavior unbecoming said student will end with the student’s termination from the GATES program at student’s expense, and the student may be subject to further disciplinary action from the host entity.

How many hours of lecture will there be during the trip?

Depending on the class, the initial in-lecture time in the US and the curriculum for the class will run approximately 10-30 hours.  You can also expect additional assignments.

What do you mean by “a hands-on experience?”  Will I be working in the chocolate line at the chocolate factory?

Your experience with the host companies could be a seminar, a walk through the facility or even the opportunity to work side by side with their employees, you will often share ideas and professional opinions. 

How do I pay and does this class qualify for financial aid?

Your institution will determine if you are eligible for financial aid for this program.  Regular forms of payment are also accepted, i.e.; check, money order, credit or debit card.

How do I enroll my student in a program with GATES Institute?

Does GATES Institute provide travel insurance?

No.  GATES Institute does not offer travel insurance to participants. However, it is mandatory for participants to have insurance in order to travel with GATES Institute.  Please refer to the our website for insurance carrier information at http://www.gatesinst.com/faq/insurance/

When is final payment due for the tour?

Final payment for travel varies tour to tour. However, typically final payment is due twelve (12) weeks prior to tour departure.

Can a parent attend the trip as a chaperone?

GATES Institute programs are open to guests of students where space is available. GATES institute is not responsible for individuals other than student travelers.

What forms of payment do you accept?

GATES Institute accepts checks, money orders, and credit or debit cards.

What is GATES Institute cancellation policy?

All deposits are nonrefundable.  Additional payments over and above deposits are refundable up to 50% if cancellation occurs 8 weeks prior to tour departure.

What airlines do you travel with?

GATES Institute uses a variety of domestic and foreign common carriers.

Is it possible to customize a trip?

GATES Institute tours are detailed and an itinerary is in place with every planned      destination. However, you the traveler, reserve the right to break from the set schedules and itinerary except where attendance is mandatory to receive course credit.

What hotels are used on the tours?

GATES Institute has prearranged relationships with most major hotel chains as well as independent hotels.  All are carefully selected for their accommodations,   proximity and convenience to points of interest.

Will I be able to reach my student while on the tour?

GATES Institute recommends an international cellular plan (please refer to your carrier’s service plan). However, a GATES Representative may be reached by telephone domestically during business hours.  We suggest parents utilize social media sites for quick communication with a student.

Are these tours college accredited?

Yes.  GATES Institute academic tours are accredited and students will earn credit      applicable to degree programs but please confirm with the student’s institution.

Are your destinations available online?

What is the student-chaperone ratio?

Student-chaperone ratio is approximately 16:1.

Can I design a program for GATES Institute?

Do I need to obtain my own travel insurance if I attend a trip with GATES Institute?

How many faculty members do you allow per trip?

Typically, we travel with one faculty member who is responsible for the academic curriculum.  Additional chaperons will be on hand to assist.

Professionals FAQ’s

What kind of business training do you offer?

GATES Institute has multiple training programs including Project Management, Six Sigma and Entrepreneurial Studies.

Is there a minimum group number?

Programs will run with a minimum of 10 individuals.  The number of the group depends on the type of program and the destination.

Will the instructor speak my language?

GATES Institute will ensure communication with the instructor is efficient.  If the instructor does not speak your language, GATES Institute will provide an interpreter for the group.

Will my credit count for CEs (Continued Education credits)?

Yes.

What are the credentials of the trainers?

Instructors/trainers are carefully selected based on the specific program offered and profiles will be available prior to departure.

Would GATES Institute process or sponsor my visa?

No. GATES Institute will provide all the documentation necessary for you to process your Visa.

What is the duration of the program?

Every program is different. Average duration is 10 days

What does the program consist of?

All programs include academic work (research and analysis, conference, seminars, etc.), field work, tourism and a charitable exchange.

Could I bring GATES Institute to my employer or organization?

Is there a payment plan option available?

Yes. GATES Institute will accept monthly installments. All programs must be paid in full prior to departure.

Are internships or job opportunities available after the training?

GATES Institute cannot guarantee internships or job opportunities after participation in one of our programs.  However, academic tourism is an excellent networking opportunity for students and professionals.
